While it’s no secret that there is a serious skills shortage in Ireland right now, the solution is a little harder to recognise. What Ireland Skills Live 2019 will do, in an exciting and dynamic way, is to tackle head on the negative perceptions students, their parents, and in some cases their teachers and career advisers have about apprenticeships or skills as a future career pathway. |
Negative perceptions range from poor pay, poor working conditions to a lack of job satisfaction.
There can be nothing more empowering than a real face to face opportunity allowing students, parents and teachers to experience the realities that so many of our apprenticeships and skills can offer today.
Ireland Skills Live 2019 will host the National skills finals – a unique showcase of over 20 varied skills in a competitive setting, the winners in each event having the opportunity to represent Ireland at the World Skills Olympics in Russia.
After watching the very best compete head to head, visitors will be encouraged to “Try A Skill” for themselves – a fun and interactive way to gauge their interest in a particular skill. Next the visitor will be encouraged to sit in on our daily panel discussions featuring some of Ireland’s most successful business men and women who started their careers with an apprenticeship. Listen and learn first hand how they developed a successful and rewarding career thanks to their start as an apprentice.
Finally, and most importantly our “Skills Careers Live “area will feature a wide range of employers, all showcasing the range of jobs and careers they currently have on offer.
We look forward to welcoming you to the first Ireland skills live next March.
