Company Description

LOETB places learning at the heart of a wide range of education and training programmes, services, and supports to young people and adults across the Laois and Offaly. Our services focus primarily on learners - both unemployed and employed - gaining the skills and competencies to enhance employment opportunities, career advancement and quality of life. We engage with, and partner, local employers in responding to skills deficits, upskilling employees, providing work-based skills and experience.

LOETB provides a diverse range of programmes strategically located at 13 Learning Hubs across the two counties. Each Centre offers the learner a choice of programmes that match the learner's current learning capacity to enable them start their journey from the right place. Once engaged the learner will travel a pathway that reaches an employment or higher education destination and are supported on their journey through a series of interventions specifically designed to meet their needs.

LOETB has been continually growing Apprenticeship over the past three years and 2018 continued that upward trend. Targeting the registration of 133 new apprentices for the region, the actual number of registrations recorded for 2018 reached 152 new apprentices. This brings the live population of apprentices in Laois and Offaly to 407 at the end of 2018.

Given the employer landscape in the region with 94% of Laois and Offaly employers employing 10 or less employees an increase of that magnitude requires the engagement of a significant number of new employers. In 2018 LOETB registered 45 new employers to apprenticeship bringing the statistics for live employers to 199 in December 2018 - up from 177 twelve months earlier. 40 of the newly registered companies were for craft trades with the other five as follows; 1 Insurance, 1 Accountancy, 2 Culinary, 1 ICT.

LOETB is currently hosting its first Phase 2 Apprenticeship Classes at the METAC Training Facility, Mountrath. There are currently 2 classes with two further Electrical Phase 2 Classes planned for the Axis Business Park Facility (which also hosts the cleanroom) in April 2019.  That Tullamore site also has the capacity to host other Apprenticeship provision as the national need.
